Screw conveyor is a practical and relatively easy-to-use material handling tool for moving bulk materials to a smooth or sloppy plane. Depending upon material characteristics of the specific bulk material, screw conveyors are commonly built to transport bulk materials at trough loadings of 15, 30, or 45 percent. For light, free-flowing, and non-abrasive bulk materials, a trough loading of 45 percent can typically be employed. For denser, slower-moving, and more abrasive bulk materials, trough loadings between 15 and 30 percent are usual. Screw conveyors are available in a variety of materials to withstand heat, abrasion, and corrosion. Conveyors can be vertical, inclined, or horizontal.
